I believe we all agree that the government needs fixed; this country has many problems and they need addressed. While I admire McCain for his service to his country, I do not believe he is the best one for the job. He has been in Washington for quite awhile and isn't looking for change; at least not in the radical shift of policy that Americans want. Indeed he has never even run a government, being a senator is a far cry from being a governor, or even a mayor...though certainly it gives him some valuable experience. Mike Huckabee however is all about change; he wants to radically change the tax code, launch an energy initiative, overhaul the healthcare system, and fix our borders. Some people have turned to Barack Obama for change; but while he is certainly enthusiastic and a great speaker...I question what change he can really bring...and if it is his change that we need then why not vote for Hillary? They have the nearly same positions: either way it is clear a conservative republican will not be voting for him; so who should I conservative republican choose to be the nominee? I believe that answer is Mike Huckabee.
Mike Huckabee is set apart from McCain in many key ways. First off, Mike Huckabee has always been pro-life; in fact he started his political career by fighting to get legislation passed to protect life. He goes beyond life at birth however and isn't a "uptight", uncaring conservative who would leave people to their sufferings..indeed he is the very opposite; and his motivation is clear. He believes in the supreme power of almighty God; so much so that when it was asked who didn't believe in evolution, he was the first to raise his hand and others followed. He believes that this God loved us so much that despite our sins against him he sent his own son to come to earth and die for us that we may spend eternity in heaven with him and not in hell, a place of complete isolation and torture. And as Mike Huckabee quotes very often "if you do this for the least of these then you do it for me also" and so Mike Huckabee expresses the love of Jesus Christ in what he does and in the policy he pursues.
Mike Huckabee is also not satisfied with the incredibly inefficient and down right annoying tax system that we have in place today. He isn't for mere "reform" but advocates The Fair Tax. A system designed to get rid of the paper work, eliminate the IRS, make America a tax haven for companies and thus gain jobs, and even help the poor and middle class. The details of this plan can be found at the site above but essentially it would replace the income tax and all capitol gains taxes, death tax, etc (all productivity taxes) and replace it with a 23% sales tax (or consumption tax) on new products. The whole system would shift some of the load to the very rich (who currently only pay about 15% of their income compared to 30%+ of the mid-income), leaves taxes about the same for the middle class and lowers it for the poor (in large part do to probates..see the website). Why this may sound strange at first...upon closer examination it makes sense. Currently companies are taxed a lot, and in turn those companies pass the tax on to the consumer. Once companies are no longer taxed the cost of goods will go down to reflect this...and then go up for the new tax: this leaves the prices almost the same yet with you having more money in your pocket (you didn't pay an income tax). That is just the start; in addition to this initial savings, companies will now have reasons to come to the U.S. and give jobs here..it will be a tax haven (currently we have the 2nd highest taxes on companies globally). And one more thing; by removing the embedded tax in products we make our goods cheaper for Americans (about 20%) and thus a lot more competitive with cheap Chinese products. I could go on with how this works, but if you are that interested click on the link above.
On immigration Mike Huckabee has received some flak but let me point out that he has a plan to close the borders, punish employers, and prevent amnesty. On the other side of the coin he is not willing to punish the kids of illegal immigrants; it wasn't their choice to come. And why this is an incentive for the parents to come; you can understand how he as a compassionate Christian feels this way. Besides what is the other alternative? John McCain has a history of being far more liberal on immigration policy.
On taxes; well read the discourse above but in addition to that think about this. It is true taxes were raised several times under Huckabee...including once where 80% of voters voted for it...what was he suppose to do? Disagree with 80% of his people...especially when it was a tax that needed to be passed for a service that needed to be fixed. Besides this, under his watch there were many tax cuts ( I believe it was 92) and this is a fairly unheard of thing in the democratic state of Arkansas.
In addition Mike Huckabee is excellent at sharing his views, and what he believes would work in a non-divisive manner. So much so that not only was he named one of the best governors in America because of how he helped the states roads, schools, and economy (look up the numbers..it is impressive) but also because at the end of his tenure he left with over a 60% approval rating...in a democratic controlled state. Wouldn't it be nice to have a like able president who the country can rally around? Sure Bush is likable...but he is not the orator that Mike Huckabee is and niether does he seem to talk the common sense that Huckabee does. The fact is Mike Huckabee is worth a fraction of the candidates and only as much as any other middle income family (he is worth $700,000 according to CNN) but he grew up "dirt poor" and knows what it is like to one of us; he is one of us. I have met the man twice, and the second time I even got to talk to him for a few minutes; he is the real deal. This man is what we want in a President and what we need in a president, please I urge you...look into his plans and watch some of his speeches. I will be surprised if any conservative republican saw him and looked into his policies and history and decided not to support him over John McCain. I am so certain in fact that I believe if Mike Huckabee had had the same funds as the other candidates; he would already have clenched the nomination.
I endorse Mike Huckabee and strongly urge you to do the same. This was typed with my own hands and is not related to the campaign in anyway; this is me telling you what I think. Please give him the chance. There is a shot; can he win at this point? Probably not but it is possible it could go to convention and there I believe he will win the nomination. And even if he does not make it this time, this is a movement, this is the future.
Sincerely,
Wesley Tamkin
